An Afternoon of the Arts
The 2010 Afternoon of the Arts competed with beautiful weather, homecomings, and one of the area's largest craft shows, but still garnered great reviews from those who attended. A Members' Art Exhibit at the GATY was the central focus of the event, with over four dozen pieces of art shown. Artists at work included Nancy Hawkins, Barb Lyras, Trish Blackman, Janet Marstellar, Natacha Keramidas, Richard Fisher, Sharon Nelson-Bianco, Dru Marchese, Ed O'Malley, Jeff Vargo, and woodcarvers Eugene Bennett, Ed Marchiori, Nick Kitchokoff, John Grantonic, Al Cochenour, Tom Evans, and Alex Yankuch.
Kelly Bancroft and Steve Reese, of Brady's Leap fame, entertained for most of the afternoon. Interludes by contemporary dancer Michelle Edison, poet Jordan Shaver, guitarist David Joachim, and Melissa Clavin's incomparable Y Line Dancers kept the pace lively.
Michael's Craft Center, the Y Leaders' Club, and Y staffers provided crafts to entertain the younger set. Suzanne Gray's collaborative art project, Cathartic Heeling, was open to anyone willing to bare his/her soles.
Refreshments were generously donated by Rulli Brothers and Sam's Club.
A special thank you to the Y staff for the outstanding efforts in readying the food court area for the event, keeping the refreshment table full, and cleaning up afterward.
