FIVE Squared Prospectus

Time to start thinking about your 5"x5" donations to the 2017 FIVE Squared benefit show and sale.  Adults may enter 8 pieces; children, up to four pieces.  Schools may enter no more than four per grade level, but teachers are encouraged to show all of the students' work at their school.

Early entry is encouraged.  As per the prospectus, drop off or mail your art and entry form to Davis Family YMCA  attn: Suzanne Gray, 45 McClurg Rd, Boardman, OH 44512.

Every year, in addition to hundreds of local art, we get a few pieces from around the country and the world.  If you have contacts in other states/countries, please encourage them to participate.  All proceeds from the event fund our ARTreach program, allowing children, teens, and families to enjoy art classes at the Rescue Mission, Daybreak, Beatitude House, Casa Madre, and Success After Six.

CALL FOR ART But I Know What I Like

The Y is hosting it's fourth annual But I Know What I Like art show from October 9-November 20th.  All family friendly two and three dimensional art will be accepted within the confines of the downloadable prospectus.  Drop off dates are Friday, September 23rd from 10-5, and Saturday, September 24th from 10-3:30.

The twist of the BIKWIL show is that it's judge by non-professionals, as in "I don't know much about art, but I know what I like."

Hooray for HOLLYWOOD

We are very fortunate to have acquired more than 20 paintings of 1940s movie stars.   Not only is the subject matter from that era, but that's when they were painted by a young man who was still in high school! After Ervin Newman returned from WWII, he never painted seriously again, but instead concentrated on working at Youngstown Sheet & Tube, raising a family, and enjoying his favorite pastimes... baseball and fishing.

After he died in 1985 at the age of 62, his wife Cecilia treasured his paintings.  Now, at 90, Mrs. Newman has generously donated them to the Y.  We've planned a simple, yet elegant, opening reception for Wednesday, July 27th, from 3-5 at the GATY, to showcase the art.  The event is free and open to the community.  Red carpet and/or 1940s attire is encouraged!
